Welcome to the 20th Australian Nitrogen Fixation Conference
Established in 1955, the Australian Nitrogen Fixation Conference (ANFC) is Australia's premier forum for fundamental and applied research in legume nitrogen fixation, legume-rhizobia symbioses, inoculant technologies, soil ecology, biochemistry, agronomy, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, engineering technologies and data-driven approaches. The 20th ANFC will be held at AgriBio, La Trobe University, Melbourne, from 10th–12th November 2026, bringing together researchers and industry to share the latest advances in nitrogen fixation in pulse and pasture legumes. The program will feature a strong focus on translating research into improved productivity, profitability and sustainability for Australian grain and pasture systems.

The conference will be hosted in the Victoria Room at Agribio, La Trobe University. Agribio is located at 5 ring road, Bundoora, 3083
La Trobe University is 12km from the Melbourne CBD and can be accessed by:
Bus route 250 that travels from Queen St in the CBD via Carlton, Fitzroy North and Northcote to La Trobe University
Car/Uber with paid parking available on site.
Hurstbridge line trains to Macleod and Tram route 86 on Plenty Rd, are both a 20-25 minute walk from agribio
Accommodation recommendations
There are many accommodation options in the city centre and inner north that are accessible via public transport from La Trobe. Suburbs such as Fitzroy North, Northcote, Thornbury and Preston have vibrant neighborhoods that are closer to La Trobe than the city centre and are on the bus route 250 or tram route 86 providing easy access to Agribio. The conference dinner will be held Wednesday 11th November in the inner city.
Airport
Melbourne Airport is located 20 km North-West of the city or 20 km from La Trobe. Skybus provides busses ($25.90) to Southern Cross station in the city. Expect an Uber fare of approximately $50 to the city or La Trobe.
